Inside the Austrian Parliament

The three 3abc classes enjoyed an interesting day in Vienna, combining history, politics, and hands-on learning during a visit to the Austrian Parliament. Through three workshops (Demokratiewerkstatt), the students gained insights into journalism, political communication, and how the parliament works. 3c had the special opportunity to interview two members of the Bundesrat. Both classes 3b and 3c produced their own podcast. 3a, who visited on the Day of Freedom of the Press, interviewed former ORF correspondent Christian Schüller and created a magazine. Both the podcast and the magazine have been published on the Austrian Parliament’s homepage.

Before the workshops, the we went on a short tour through Vienna’s first district, where the history teachers Ms. Kettemann, Mr. Kozak, and Ms. Pfistermüller brought Austria’s history to life. We explored Austria’s past, from the city’s Roman foundations to the grandeur of the Hofburg, and the historical importance of Heldenplatz. The groups also happen to meet the Austrian president, Alexander Van der Bellen and Ernst Gödl, the new ÖVP parliamentary group leader.

It was a fantastic day in Vienna that brought Austrian history, politics, and democratic values to life.

Dear Marlene, please inquire with Ms. Pfistermüller about pictures from 3c, since she is the author of this post. Kind regards, Mr. Knasar
