Cardiovascular Physiology Expert Dr Goswami Speaks to 5c

Assoc Prof Dr Goswami (MD, PhD) is an expert in cardiovascular physiology. He works at the Division of Physiology, Medical University of Graz. He has published over 135 papers on cardiovascular systems, aging, and vascular function in health and diseases.

On March 27, Dr Goswami presented the topic “Do we need gravity?” in an interactive, interesting and informative style to our highly motivated and enthusiastic 5c students.

Did you ever think about the fact that your heart pumps blood to the top of your body against gravity? Imagine the heart of a giraffe and how much pressure it needs to generate to pump blood to the brain!

Did you ever wonder how blood returns to your heart from the lower parts of your body?  There is no pump in your feet to send the blood back to your heart!

We all know that astronauts float when they are in space due to lack of gravity.  Did you ever wonder how the lack of gravity affects the muscles, bones and organs of an astronaut?

If you want answers to any of these questions, just ask a 5c student.
