Debate Championships – Prague

While many of us were getting ready to enjoy the holidays. GIBS students along with our new friends from Vienna were competing at the European Debate Championships in Prague. At a very tough competition with motions on the Bologna process, Diversity in Media, Tourism, European & politics. Performing admirably Team Austria; Graz won 3 debates missing out narrowly on qualifying for the final rounds. Their dedication to the craft meant they continued their involvement, training and prepping the outround motions as part of their training for the World Debate Championship this summer. A big congratulations to Sofia Schuppler, Valentina Stock, Igor Kizik, Anna Demus and Joshua Polt for flying the flag for our school, our city and Austria. A special shout out to Marina Kojić, former World Debate Champion from Vienna who was coaching and managing the students while Mr Ó Cribín is on Paternity leave. The following Thursday, tryouts were held to finalise the national team to represent Austria in Belgrade at the World Debate Championship and despite stiff competition from our well drilled friends from Vienna two of our very own students were chosen: Sofia Schuppler and Valentin Stock! Well done! They will be hard at work this following semester so watch this space!
