Year 3 History Outing

The Year 3 history outing has seen some changes over the past year. Since the Ruine Gösting is unfortunately closed to visitors and the bus prices for a trip to the charming town of Friesach have skyrocketed, we had to look for new options. But the history team never gives up — we focus on solutions, not problems!

We discovered that Riegersburg is easily accessible by public transport and still offers fascinating insights into medieval architecture. At the Lower Fortress Lichtenegg, now home to a viewing platform, students explored topics such as fortresses, defense lines, daily life in the 16th and 17th centuries, and even medieval superstition.

It was a truly enriching experience and a wonderful addition to our Middle Ages project!

Riegersburg was built on a hill to have a good view of the enemy. It was never conquered.
My favourite room was the big white room with the white horse.
I liked the interesting torture instruments.
It used to be two castles, and the owner used the remaining stones of the ruin to continue building the other castle.
In the armoury, you could hold and touch the weapons to feel how heavy and big they were.

I (Kelly) remember the cave Jana crawled into. The entrance was very small, but inside it was really big! It was made for a soldier and his horse, but we couldn’t figure out how the horse was supposed to fit in the cave. I really liked the field trip.

I (Jana) remember two things: when I crawled into the small cave that turned out to be big, and the witch museum.
They had a lot of punishments when they thought someone was a witch. There was even one where they cut off pieces of the body.
It was very funny and exciting. I also learned many interesting facts about Riegersburg.

I (Ellie) liked the playground and would have liked to spend more time there. I also really liked the witches part.
It was great that you can see all the way to Hungary!
On Riegersburg there were many women, and one of them was the head.

Die Riegersburg war einer der besten Ausflüge der GIBS.

Es war echt ein schönes Erlebnis, man konnte sich alles echt gut vorstellen.
