6b Concert Trip
Students in 6b took a special trip to the Stefaniensaal this week to hear virtuoso violinist Benjamin Schmid play Paganini’s 2nd violin concerto, accompanied by the Youth Orchestra Alpe Adria Orchestra under the baton of Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. Mr. Schmid spoke to the students about the life of Paganini and his music, of how he was viewed by his peers oft he time, and the importance of his pieces in the violin reperitoire. Additionally, he prepared the students for each movement of the concerto by talking about its structure, playing the main melodic ideas and explaining the (self composed) cadenza. For added effect, he adorned himself with a black wig at the end of the third movement, La Campanella, in an attempt to create Paganini’s ‚look‘. It was an absolute treat for all students and teachers alike! The Orchestra also performed Johann Strauss (son) Wein, Weib und Gesang op 333.
