2a and 2b Hear Handel’s Iconic ‘Messiah’

Classes 2a and 2b took a trip to the Stefaniensaal to hear the dress rehearsal for G.F. Handel’s iconic masterpiece, the ‘Messiah’.  First performed in Dublin, in 1742, the oratorio has become a staple of Christmas and Easter repertoire worldwide, and has cemented Handel as one of the most important composers of the Baroque period.  2a and 2b students had to wait for it – but eventually heard the famed ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ live, featuring the Recreation Orchestra on period instruments and as well as the choir Camerata Styria!

To prepare for the event, Kirstin Hauser from Styriarte came to GIBS to present the historical background and fun facts!
