  The Language Network Graz (Sprachennetzwerk Graz) was founded two years ago. Its aim is to enhance Graz’s position as a European city of excellence by promoting research into language teaching, pre-service teacher training, and content-based language teaching. Nine institutions representing European, national and regional levels, have decided to pool their skills and, through common activities, pass on their knowledge to the general public. The Network has formed around the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML), a Council of Europe institution situated on Nikolaiplatz. The ECML actively supports its 34 member states in all issues related to plurilingualism, and in developing innovative approaches to language teaching.Leading institutions in Graz have joined up in the Language Network Graz  and deal with language topics on the basis of the following guiding ideas:

  • We are committed to plurilingualism and take measures to support it.
  • We connect competences and share our knowledge and experience.
  • We increase the visibility of Graz as a centre of language comptence.
  • We inform each other and the public about news, projects, initiatives, new methods and models etc..
  • We initiate inter-organisational projects in which several network partners may choose to participate.
  • We coordinate & integrate activities, projects, etc. whenever this is appropriate.
