But as an old saying states, “The best comes last!” After a long trip of 16 hours we finally arrived in Minneapolis and were shocked by the weather at first. When we looked down from the airplane we had expected to  fly above Greenland but everything was white.

Due to the warm welcome of our host families, the cold weather was not a big problem. From the first moment on, everybody could feel that it would be a wonderful exchange! Accompanied by Mag. Barbara Conrad and Dr. Martina Pfistermüller-Czar we visited the main tourist attractions of the twin cities, Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Another important aspect of our exchange was to  get an impression of the American school system, so we attended classes at  South High School together with our host brothers and sisters.  Already after the first school day, GIBS students were quite surprised by the educational system of the USA, which differs a lot from the Austrian one.

Besides the great program in the afternoons, some of the students had the opportunity to make a dream come true and visit games of the NHL or NBA. During our nine days stay in Minneapolis, one day was also spent at the biggest mall of North America, the Mall of America. This role model exchange ended with a wonderful prom, at which the Austrian students were special guests.

After nine awesome days in Minnesota, we made our way to the city that never sleeps, New York. Under the lead of our KV Mrs Conrad and Mrs. Pfistermüller-Czar , we visited many  tourist attractions and could use one morning of  our three days  stay in New York for shopping. After twelve days in North America we made our way back across the Atlantic Ocean filled with new experiences!

UST I/m: Georg GRÖLL, seemed to be unbeatable in his category, won all three races in which he participated. Unfortunately, he missed the third leg as it coincided with the Graz Streetball Tournament. Therefore, he only came in 4^th in the overall ranking. Chin up Georg – we all know you’re the best!

UST II/m: In the finals Alexander PUR managed to achieve his best ranking this year coming in 3^rd – a delayed, but so much sweeter gratification after his disqualification in the previous race. Congratulations, Alex!

UST II/w: Elena ZEINER suffered the same fate in the last leg as Alex did in the third. Despite her disqualification, however, she came in  3^rd place in the overall ranking.

Our budding orienteers from 1B, Anna GRÖLL and Dora ZEINER, also showed their talent in the finals coming in 4^th and 5^th respectively. Go, girls, go! You’ll be an unbeatable duo in a few years!

Beside other “regulars” like Laura JUNGWIRTH, Ketan SINGNURKAR, Paul PANZITT, Ines KIRSTEN and Maria RISSNER everyone on the team performed remarkably this year!  Hope you’ll all stick with it through the coming years, and that we can continue to excite and recruit new members!

C´est la question à laquelle Mme Radl, notre assistent devait trouver une réponse.

Trop de sucré, de beurre (il faut bien connaitre les chiffres), pas bien mélangé, mélange équilibré, typiquement francais, excellent goût……….

Si vous voulez essayer aussi voilà la recette:

-        fais fondre 250 grammes de chocolat noir

-        ajoute 125 grammes de beurre coupé en petits dés

-        retire le mélange beurre-chocolat du feu

-        ajoute deux jaunes dòeufs, un paquet de sucré vanillé et 125 grammes de sucré glacé

-        mets la pâte au frais pendant une heure et demie

-        forme de petites boules de pâtes à la main

-        roule-les dans du cacao en poudre et mets –les sur un plat.

Cette année j’ai eu la possibilité de partir avec un groupe d’étudiants de francais de différents lycées de Graz en échange individuel durant trois semaines organisé par le Land Steiermark et le LSR.  Donc, j’ai passé trois semaines merveilleuses entourée par des gens charmants, des repas délicieux, des profs stricts, des millions de bisous et une centrale nucléaire. Autrement dit: j’étais en France.

Être en France, ça veut dire ne parler que le français. Pour les français, chaque langue étrangère est une langue étrange. Le premier jour un prof m’a raconté une blague: Comment s’appelle quelqu’un qui parle trois langues? C’est un trilingue. Comment s’appelle quelqu’un qui parle deux langues? C’est un bilingue. Et comment est-ce qu’on appelle les personnes qui savent parler seulement une langue? Ce sont les français. Ils ont le sens de l’humour, les français.

Être en France, ça veut dire aussi manger des repas inhabituelles.  On a passé une journée au bord de la mer. Moi, j’ai ramassé des coquillages pour les ranger à la maison alors que ma famille d’accueil a fait pareil mais pour les manger à la maison. Ils mangent vraiment tout, les français. Ce n’est pas un hasard qu’ils “croquent la vie à pleines dents”.

Finalement on peut dire: Être en France ça veut dire profiter, profiter de tout ce dont on peut profiter. Profiter d’une occasion, profiter du beau temps, profiter de la belle vue, bref: profiter de la vie.

The Austrian constitution is no longer alien to us after having explored the National Assembly. After watching Austrian politicians debating, we had a very lively discussion about how the press reflects upon the current issues and how much of what we read in the newspapers has actually been said in parliament. According to Mr. Krainer, you should believe less than 30% of what you read in the papers, better try and find out yourself.

La situation de la femme en Tunisie

MARA SCHILHAN wurde für die beste Fachbereichsarbeit 2013  mit dem ersten Preis von der Junior Akademie der Grazer Universität ausgezeichent. In der Arbeit, die von Mag.a  Marion Radl-Käfer betreut und in französischer Sprache abgefasst wurde, behandelt die Kandidatin die  Entstehung, Weiterentwicklung und den aktuellen Diskussionstand zum Thema Frauenrechte in Tunesien 2 Jahre nach der „Arabellion“.

Durch profunde Recherche, sprachliche Kompetenz unterstützt durch 2 Tunesienaufenthalte im Rahmen von schulischen Projekten,  gelang eine exzellente  Arbeit, die auch von der tunesischen Botschaft in Wien, vertreten durch Herrn Botschafter Samir Koubaa, sehr wertgeschätzt wird. Herzlichen Glückwunsch, Mara!
